Rates
Our rates depend upon what we are doing, the amount of people in the session and the time of day the service is offered. Our evening and weekend appointments are most in demand. To encourage clients to come during the weekday time slots, we offer reduced rates.

FREE Consultation: The first session is 1 1/2 hours long and one hour of that (the consultatio) is free. You will be billed $50.00 for the remaining 1/2 hr. Please arrive 15 minutes before your psychotherapy appointment time as there is a simple form that has to be filled in (medical information, meds, etc).
NOTE: A professional hour is 55 minutes. If you go over-time, you will be charged in 15 minute increments as per the above chart.
Many people find an hour is not enough -- if this is the case, please be sure to book a longer time slot. As I often have appointments back-to-back, I cannot always run overtime -- it is not fair to the next client who is waiting. Better to book your longer time-slot ahead of time.
CAREER TESTING
STUDENTS: We charge a flat rate of $500.00 per student. There is a 20% discount for siblings tested at the same time. 10% discount for siblings if tested at a different time.
ADULTS: We charge a flat rate of $600.00 per adult. The reason the rate is slightly higher than with students is that we do not do any group testing -- all sessions are one-on-one.
MISSED APPOINTMENTS

When you book an appointment with me, I block off that hour (or more) to spend with you and only you and I am there, ready and waiting for our appointment time. This means I am not available to see other clients, as it is set aside as "your hour". You will be charged for your appointment if you miss or cancel an appointment with less than 24 hours notice. I would appreciate as much advance notice, however, if you are cancelling or rescheduling, as it enables me to fill that time slot with someone else who needs help. The only exception is illness, and you are allowed one missed appointment at no charge due to illness during a 6-month time period. If you are in couples therapy, the other partner would still be expected to attend as it is highly unlikely that you are both sick. We can still do work on a one-to-one basis with one partner. In fact, in many cases with couples, I see the clients together and separately .
INSURANCE COMPANIES & OHIP
As we are not medical doctors, we cannot bill through OHIP. Many insurance companies, however, DO cover psychotherapy. Each insurance company offers many different "packages" to employers -- check with your insurance provider to see which package your employer has purchased. The premium packages (albeit also most expensive) do include psychotherapy -- usually it's a group of 3 professional services that are covered: chiropractor, massage therapy and psychotherapy. If they cover psychotherapy, also ask the details of the coverage. Some companies allow a certain dollar amount per session with no limit as to how many sessions, some will only allow a certain dollar amount for a specific period of time (often 6 or 10 sessions, after which they don't cover it -- if you continue, you would have to pay out of your own pockst.), others will allow a certain yearly price limit -- and you are at liberty to use that allocation however you want. Check with your provider to be sure. You would be responsible for submitting the claim -- we do not bill directly.
Please Consider This . . .
Before making the decision to use your insurance coverage to reimburse you for therapy or counseling, please consider the following:
- Confidentiality: All insurance companies require some information about the reason for psychological treatment in order to process your claim. Additionally, managed care plans often require detailed information regarding the problem for which you are seeking help, history, symptoms, family life, work life, and so on. The information is entered into increasingly large information systems, and current regulations are not strong in protecting confidentiality.
- Control of Treatment: Managed care companies use the information to decide if treatment is medically necessary, what kind of therapy is approved, and, later, if it should continue. Many of the insurance company employees who make these decisions have limited training, and—of course—have never met with you.
- Psychiatric Diagnosis: Health insurance is designed to pay for the treatment of illness. Therefore, a psychiatric diagnosis must be made before most insurance companies will pay.
PAYMENT
We accept Cash or Cheque only at this time.
SLIDING SCALE PAYMENTS
We have some times slots, always during the day time, to offer a small amount of therapy sessions to those who cannot afford to pay the full rate. This is on a demonstrated need basis (i.e. proof of income is needed). Please feel free to discuss this with us.
We do not do pro-bono work. We believe that there is no "investment" in the therapeutic process if one does not have to invest financially in one's well-being, no matter how small that amount.
